We know Eminem topped the charts this week selling 793k copies of his new album “The Marshall Mathers LP 2,” but that’s not all the action he saw. His entire discography made the Billboard 200 dating all the way back to “The Slim Shady LP.” His grand total of album sales for the week was actually 830k. Pretty crazy huh? Eminem is definitely in no mood on the cover of the latest issue of Billboard magazine. With his new album “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” hitting stores November 5th, he kicks up the promo with a “Marshall Law: The Making and Marketing of a Rap God’s Return” cover story in the issue which hits newsstands November 9th. Watch out for Marshall to appear on SNL this weekend as well.
Remember when Billboard changed their policy to have YouTube streams count in how they rank songs on their Hot 100 list? Remember how crazy the internet is? Well, Kanye West‘s song “Gone” off his sophomore album “Late Registration,” just debuted on the top 20. How? A video used the song as its soundtrack later to see it go viral and break 15 million + views on YouTube.
Marina Shifrin is a writer/comedian who recently quit her job as a video editor in a very interesting way. She actually filmed herself dancing in her vacant office late at night while “Gone” was playing in the background. 6.2 million of the video’s views were tracked to the US which means they were used to help the song chart and debut at #18 on Billboard‘s Hot 100. What a world we live in.
You can watch the viral video as mentioned below.
We saw Drake‘s latest magazine cover on Billboard yesterday, and in the cover story for the issue, he finally says his first words about Kendrick Lamar‘s comments on his “Control” verse. Interesting to say the least.
“I didn’t really have anything to say about it, It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That’s all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic.”
G.O.O.D. Music producer Travi$ Scott kicked it with Billboard for a new interview about his journey in the rap game thus far. He talks about growing up in Houston and leaving it all to start fresh in New York and Los Angeles. T.I. was the first to show interest in the young star but Kanye West caught on soon after. His manager introduced him to Ye and when he finally met him, he played “Owl Pharaoh” and got nothing but positive responses.
He also talked about how he landed on JAY Z‘s “Magna Carta Holy Grail” which was very last minute and his experiences in the studio working on “YEEZUS.” Young Travis also tells us we can expect his new album out in 2014 and he has been working closely with Kanye and Tip on it. You can hit the jump to watch some performances of “Upper Echelon” and “Uptown.”

Looks like The Weeknd is taking a page out of Drake’s book by placing a billboard up in Toronto to promote his upcoming album “Kiss Land.” I can’t say for sure where this is located yet but if you are in T.O. definitely keep your eyes open driving downtown. Check out his latest release “Love In The Sky” here while we wait for the new project to drop September 10th.
